Sepsis (blodforgiftning)

Sepsis er en alvorlig tilstand hvor en infeksjon har medført en alvorlig betennelsestilstand i flere organer i kroppen.

Sepsis skyldes en bakterieinfeksjon i blodet og påfølgende betennelsesreaksjoner i mange av kroppens organer samtidig. Utløsende årsak er ofte en infeksjon, for eksempel lungebetennelse, urinveisinfeksjon, hudinfeksjon eller andre infeksjoner.
