Forkalkning i halskar (karotisstenose)

Forkalkning i halskar (karotisstenose) er en forholdsvis vanlig tilstand hos eldre mennesker. Sykdommen oppstår når forkalkninger fester seg i veggen på halskarene og gjør dem trangere.

Forkalkning (åreforkalkning) i halskar skyldes fettavleiringer på innsiden av blodårene som fører oksygenrikt blod til hjernen (arteriene).
