Implanterbar hjertestarter

En implanterbar hjertestarter, en defibrillator, virker ved å oppdage og stanse farlige, unormale hjerterytmer (arytmier). Hjertestarteren overvåker hjerteslagene hele tiden, og den avgir elektriske sjokk for å gjenopprette normal hjerterytme om nødvendig.

Hensikten med en slik hjertestarter er å redusere risikoen for å dø dersom hjertet ditt slår om til en farlig hjerterytme eller stanser.
