PCOS (Polycystisk ovariesyndrom)

Polycystisk ovariesyndrom (PCOS) er en tilstand som kjennetegnes av symptomer som økt nivå av mannlige kjønnshormoner, mange små blærer (cyster) på eggstokkene og sjeldne og/eller uregelmessige menstruasjoner.

PCOS er den vanligste hormonforstyrrelsen hos kvinner. Tilstanden rammer 10 til 15 prosent av alle kvinner og kan gi forskjellige symptomer og plager. Noen har milde, lette symptomer andre har uttalte plager. Det finnes likevel noen fellestrekk i symptombildet.
